Unedited live recordings, Stockholm, Sweden, Dec 2013 & Jan 2014

From deep under the Stockholm streets come two new independent releases from the somewhat enigmatic Body in the Thames

The Psychology of Machines EP is an altogether different but still recognisably consistent affair.

Clocking in at just under 34 minutes but comprising just two tracks this release is a live and unedited conversation between analogue synths, sequencers an old desktop PC and the single human ‘conductor’.

“I never intended to release these tracks in this form” says their creator “the idea was just to do some live takes and edit together ‘compositions’ but each time I tried to figure out which bits to discard I became frustrated that the obvious ‘mistakes’ – glitches, imperfect fades, feedback, bits where hardly anything happens – were in fact the parts I liked best; unpredictable and characterful even though it’s entirely machine made aside from my hands on a dial, a keyboard or a fader.

The other thing about these live takes is that I did them in a windowless concrete cellar (an actual cold war nuclear bunker or ‘Skyddsrum’(saferoom)) under the Stockholm streets on dark, cold, winter afternoons and as I attempted to wrestle with editing them the Swedish winter turned to spring and they made less & less sense to me. Now however, as we’re back to 3pm sunsets and hyper S.A.D. and everyone becoming unhinged and anxious they make perfect sense again.”

Body In The Thames Sweden

There is a gate beyond the gate of Death,
Beyond the gate of everlasting Life,
Beyond the gates of Heaven and Hell
Whereon but to believe is horror !
Whereon to meditate engendereth
Even in deathless spirits such as I
A tumult in the breath,
A chilling of the inexhaustible blood
