It's a mix of ambient/improvisation/modern composition & spoken word/literature
It's got lots of space echo & is very psychedelic/hypnagogic
The first episode is 'Between Worlds'
It premiered on Dissonance Radio on Monday, May 30th 2022 but I'm now making it available to d/l for free/name your price
THE STORY GOES LIKE THIS:
"Many, many years ago I was listening to a radio documentary about the history of ‘how we think that we think’ - you know the kind of thing, exploring changes in attitude to cognitive science, intuition, sensory response etc.
One tiny and fascinating snippet of this doc was the revelation that Mozart & his wife Constanze had read a paper that expounded theories of left-brain/right-brain function - that left brain was verbal and analytical, right brain intuitive, emotional, imaginative and creative.
Whether true or not, Wolfgang & Constanze were convinced enough to try this in practice. Whenever Wolfgang was composing he would have Constanze read to him - scripture, journals, early novels, pamphlets, whatever was available. The content didn’t matter.
The point was that Constanze was to distract Mozart’s verbal, logical, left-brain so that it wouldn’t interfere with his creative right-brain processes, thus allowing him to enter his ‘flow’ more readily & compose with a higher-functioning brain state. Essentially using readings as a meditative trigger.
The idea of the two of them working this way has fascinated me for years and I have often thought about what the two of them in the room together must have sounded like - part chaotic, part psychedelic in my imagination - and thought it would make great radio.
Well, all these years later I have finally got around to doing it. That is, combining readings with live composition and recording it.
To be clear, the music is not an interpretation of the words, nor the words a narrative to the music, they're simply created/recorded in parallel
...and of course, I am neither Mozart nor Constanze BUT I do have a better laptop and mics than they had, probably better wifi too
...
TLDR version: MOZART'S WIFE is ambient/modern composition/electronica with spoken word
...
The first episode is called BETWEEN WORLDS and is fairly dreamlike, hypnagogic and quite psychedelic
I’m planning other themes for other episodes - psychogeography, poetry, class, non-fiction… even erotica
